Agadir, June 27, 2013

The Country Music hall of famer and Grammy award winner, Kenny Rogers, made his debut in the Arab world and Africa from Morocco. The septuagenarian Texan performed on Wednesday at the tenth anniversary of Timitar Festival, taking place in the southern city of Agadir.

A two-hour delay did not prevent a huge crowd from attending Roger’s first concert in Morocco. Al AMAL square was l packed with 70 thousand fans that came from all over the world to enjoy a performer of  high caliber who marked a whole generation of the 70s and 80s.

Backed by a seven-member band, the Houston native dressed in white with a neck warmer exemplifying the friendship between Morocco and America. He entered the stage with a keen desire to share his rich repertoire with admirers of good music from all backgrounds and ethnicities who came in sheer numbers to watch his show.

“I’m so excited, thank you for having me”, the king of country music told the crowd before starting to play 20 of the songs which made him successful in the past but still continue to create his glory nowadays. He sang “Love or something like it”, “It’s a beautiful life”, “Lady” and other hits that topped the album charts in the United States and has sold over 130 million records worldwide.

Kenny Rogers seemed upset though at today’s generation unable to repeat any of his songs and jokingly yelled at them: “Never mind, I’ll do it myself for Godsake!” During the entire show, Rogers made sure he shared photographs of his 50-year career on big screens with the audience. He displayed images of his identical twins Justin and Jordan and his wife, Wanda Miller, to whom he dedicated his song “To Me”.

Although the concert was nothing like those of the 70s and 80s, and his voice has lost some of its momentum,, many appreciated the star making an appearance in Morocco before he continues his tour in Cardiff, Wales.
