Taroudan- According to TradeArabia News Service, Morocco’s tourism revenues reached MAD 38.8 billion (USD 4.69 billion) in 8 months, from January to August 2013.
The revenues recorded an increase of 2.1% compared to the same period in the previous year.
Additionally, the Moroccan National Tourist Office announced that through a questionnaire, 96% of tourists rated their trip to Morocco higher than other destinations.
The American international news channel CNN, which categorized Morocco as one of the most tourists-friendly countries in Africa, has recently ranked The Oukaimeden ski resort, located about 80 kilometers from Marrakech, Morocco, among the top 100 resorts in the world.
In a statement to the Maghreb Agency Press (MAP), the Minister of tourism Lahcen Hadad said that Morocco is now recognized as the first destination for Arab tourists, a position proven by the increased frequency of flights between Morocco and several countries in the Gulf region.
While Morocco is traditionally perceived as a leisure tourist destination, the country also welcomes financiers and stakeholders to invest in the tourism sector. This is in addition to the government allocating more funds to the Ministry of Tourism in order to improve infrastructures in the main cities of the Kingdom.
After its plan for 10 million tourists by 2010, Morocco is increasing the challenge to double the number of tourists by 2020. Though an ambitious plan, the 2020 vision aims at placing the Kingdom among the top 20 tourist destinations in the world.
