Habib Essid

Taroudante- After a terrorist attack that killed 39 tourists in the coastal resort city of Sousse in Tunisia, Habib Essid, Tunisia’s Prime Minister, said on Friday night that the government is introducing several resolutions to prevent future attacks, including the closure of 80 mosques outside of state control.

The Prime Minister said that these places of worship “will all be closed within a week,” accusing these mosques of inciting violence.

Essid also said that the government will proceed immediately to take the necessary measures and actions to dissolve all political parties, that are not in line with the Constitution, and will reconsider the formal decree organizing associations, particularly with regard to funding.

He added that these associations should be subject to state control, and the government must increase campaigns and raids to track suspicious elements in coordination with the public prosecutor.

Essid believes that the fight against terrorism is a "national duty,” calling on all Tunisians to assist the authorities.

The Prime Minister said that "an exceptional plan for more secure tourist and archaeological sites" will be implemented, adding that on July 1 the government will deploy armed units to maintain tourist security all along the coast and in front of hotels.

He also announced that a "national congress" to fight terrorism would be held in September.
