Rabat- Moroccan nationals submitted 434,652 applications for Schengen visas in 2014, which represents 8.3 per cent increase compared to the previous year.

According to recent statistics from the European commission, Morocco is ranked 8th among countries that submitted the highest number of applications for Schengen visas.

The kingdom was preceded by India (568.216), Algeria (445.517), Turkey (593.634), and Belarus (881.404).

The top three countries were Russia (5.768.182), China (1.800.369) and Ukraine (1.387.068).

Applications for Schengen visas submitted by Moroccans have never ceased to increase. The number jumped from about 269,875 applications in 2009 to nearly 373,823 in 2012.

With 445.517applications, Algeria topped the list of Arab countries that submitted the highest number of applications for Schengen visas. It is followed by Morocco (434,652), Saudi Arabia (308.879), the United Arab Emirates (253.765), Kuwait (164.753), Egypt (165.995) and Tunisia (150.038).

Most denied visa applications in 2014 were from Algeria (25, 5%), Iran (16%), Tunisia (11, 8%) and Egypt (11, 7%).

The European Union and Morocco launched earlier this year discussions on the facilitation of issuance of visas for Moroccans.
