Rabat- Morocco’s handling and processing of traffic infractions on the roads and highways of the Kingdom will soon be totally electronic due to the implementation of a new electronic system.
In partnership with the Ministry of Equipment, Transport and Logistics, the Ministry of Justice and Freedoms announced this week the adoption of a new system for the electronic processing and issuance of tickets for traffic infractions captured via radar that do not necessarily require the direct intervention of police officers.
The Ministry said in a statement that the new system, called S@J_PV, will automate the transmission and storage of traffic violations captured with the help of fixed radars from the police patrol directly to the specialized courts.
Officers will automatically sign and input all of the data corresponding to the violation, such as images of the vehicle, the number of the license plate, the time and place of the infraction, into the system that then sends the traffic citation directly to a local server at the Ministry of Justice and Freedoms.
The Ministry added that the new system is meant to expedite routine traffic stops and save costly trips to court to print and deliver paper tickets. It also aims to reduce the traffic death toll that has been on the rise in Morocco.
The electronic transmittal of tickets will allow judges to issue verdicts electronically and will help boost efficiency of the processing of traffic violations, the Ministry said.
The Ministry also said that the electronic processing of traffic violations is part of the implementation of Morocco’s major strategic objectives for the reform of the justice system, and in line with the strategic objectives of the Maroc Numerique Programme.
