Rabat- The terrorist organization of the Islamic State (IS) claimed Friday that the Jordanian military campaign in northern Syria had killed an American woman that was held hostage by the group.
According to media reports, the so-called Islamic State published a message saying that an American woman was killed when the building where she was being held in the group's Syrian stronghold of Raqqa collapsed as a result of aerial bombardment by Jordanian military warplanes.
"The failed Jordanian aircraft killed an American female hostage. No Mujahid was injured in the bombardment, and all praise is due to Allah," the message said.
The group identified the American female hostage as Kayla Jean Mueller and gave her Arizona address to add credibility to its claims, the New York Times reported.
The same source added that Mueller disappeared in August 2013 after she drove into the northern Syria city of Aleppo with her Syrian boyfriend.
The brutal execution of Jordanian pilot First Lt. Moaz al-Kasasbeh, 26, whose video was posted on the Internet by the Islamic State on Tuesday, has prompted Jordan to launch 'heavier' bombing attacks on Islamic State targets in neighboring Syria to avenge the immolation of their pilot.
Jordan also executed two convicted terrorist prisoners, including a woman, in retaliation for the death of Moaz al-Kasasbeh.
