Rabat - The Moroccan Ministry of Education put an end to the permission granted to teachers and inspectors to work overtime hours in the private sector.
The Ministry of Education and Training published Decree 0001-15 dated February 4, 2015, which put an end to the authorizations granted to teachers working in all levels of the education system to work overtime hours in private schools. The decree will be effective starting at the end of the 2014-2015 school year.
According to a ministry statement, the decree states that private schools exercising their activity before the implementation of the decree are entitled, exceptionally, to a transitional period of three school years ending at the end of the 2016-2017 school year in order to enable them to take the necessary steps to have a permanent teaching staff.
These establishments may, during that period, resort to the services of teachers of public education, provided that the number of those teachers does not exceed 20% of the total teachers working in middle and high schools of each private institution and an authorization is obtained from the regional academies of education and training, the statement said.
The order notes that the ministry will not hesitate to take disciplinary measures against teachers whose overtime work in private institutions is proven, as well as against private institutions benefiting from the services of these teachers.
