Rabat- Mother of Moroccan plasterer who is facing amputation of his right hand for theft in Saudi Arabia, called on King Mohammed VI to interevene with the Saudi authorities for the release of her son, saying he is the sole breadwinner for the family which lives in the outskirts of the city of Taroudant.
In a video posted on YouTube by news website Machahid.info, the mother said that her son is innocent of the charges raised against him after he was accused of stealing the wallet of a Bengali resident in the holy city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
“I can’t sleep and tears never leave my eyes,” the mother said in the video.
According to news website Hespress, the 27-year-old Moroccan was arrested about a year ago in the city of Mecca, accused of stealing a wallet. He was tried before a Saudi court and he is currently held in prison.
The mother of the Moroccan worker was quoted as saying by Hespress that her son was sentenced to amputation of his right hand without given the chance to legal assistance or representation.
