Bridge Built During French Protectorate Near collapse Due to Floods

Rabat – The Head of Sidi Ifni Regional Council has announced his resignation in protest of the government’s lack of responsiveness to the floods that have impacted on Sidi Ifni. Amid the controversy following the recent floods that hit many provinces of Southern Morocco, the Head of the Sidi Ifni Regional Council Lahcen El Jouhadi, who is a member of the Socialist Union of Popular Forces Party (USFP), has decided to resign his post.

Jouhadi was quoted by Alyaou24 as saying that one of the reasons for his resignation was the government’s neglect of the flood-damaged areas of Sidi Ifni.

“The Minister of Interior has not visited Sidi Ifni in order to assess the level of damage in the region caused by the recent floods. This was one reason that stand behind my resignation," said El Jouhari.

Jouhadi went on to add that among the other reasons for his resignations was the lack of a participatory approach to deal with the crisis, poor communication among the state's various departments, and the government’s failure to declare Sidi Ifni a 'disaster area.'
