Taroudante- Nearly forty Moroccan and Algerian retirees are facing the threat of expulsion, according to Libération. Most of the retirees arrived in France in the 1960s and are currently living in a low-furnished hotel in Paris.
After living in this poorly maintained hotel for 45 years, many Moroccan and Algerian elders may find themselves homeless.
"I was very young when I came here. I grew accustomed to this place and I stayed. If we have to go, where shall we go?" Asks Tinicha Mohamed, 70, a resident at the hotel since 1969.
"If you have no address, you got nothing. Your word is not heard. You’re screwed up to redo your residence permit, for everything!" Added Youssef Ferkous, 71.
Even though the expulsion procedures were issued months ago, the Moroccan and Algerian retirees were informed only recently.
Zakia Ait Tayeb, the manager of the hotel, received the letter of expulsion from the Prefecture of the Police in Paris on July 7, but the High Court of Paris had pronounced its judgment in 26 July 2013.
"I'm sorry for them, but I am loser, too, in this story," Ait Tayeb said, explaining that the owner of the hotel wants to "smash it down and make another hotel. Otherwise, they completely do not care. "
However, the elders have decided not leave their residence without a fight.
"For me, it is a must to get mobilized. I knocked on every door of the hotel to get organized," Mohamed Amrouni, 65, said.
