Washington D.C- Remembering those times when they lectured us on how to be a good journalist, word like these would come to my mind: don't be biased, be reasonable, go directly to the subject, ask for all the tiny details, mind your business, and don't sympathize with anyone.. etc.
That's mainly what I grasped from my short term working with CNN. Today, while I was going over the daily major news in our mainstream media, I got struck hard by the way the headlines have been put out. I realized that our reporters are struggling to tell the world what is truly happening. Most striking headlines were the ones about Gaza. I've noticed the biased and the massive misinformation in the lay out of facts about casualties and the turns of events in the ongoing Israeli- Palestinian conflict.
Just for the past week, some brave journalists got in trouble for simply doing their job. CNN corespondent, Diana Magnay, was pulled out from Tel Aviv and was transferred to Moscow for reporting about an Israeli crowd cheering for the seen of bombardment of Gaza. Another one from NBC, is the corespondent, Ayman Moheyeldin, who was pulled out from Gaza, after he dared to report an emotional incident that he witnessed about the four Palestinian boys who were targeted by Israeli army bombs at the beach.
Other major corporate mainstream media completely abandoned reporting about some mind blowing stories coming out of Gaza strip, if it wasn't even ignored all together. Washington post just yesterday had a disastrous headline. The headline puts the 400 Palestinian civilians' deaths in a second line to the only 2 Israeli soldiers casualties. Can you imagine that?!
I really had a mixed emotions reading that headline in particular. I wasn't sure if I wanted to laugh, cry, or just vomit.
I feel that I can go deep in their bosses minds and imagine what they tell these reporters; how dare you show the world that Israel is killing civilians and targeting children? Your job is to only show Hamas's "tooth pick" missiles and fire crackers shelling the Israelis. Your job should only be helping to give Israel the justification of its invasion to Gaza. You should only show its righteous self defense. Forget about all that you were taught in professional journalism. That only can be applied on other world news, but not on Israel. Of course, this isn't the first time the major mainstream media twists facts around and victimizes the criminal when it comes to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
I feel a sense of shame now carrying on my shoulder the burden of professional journalism. In this time of age, I think we basically raped journalism. I feel there are some monsters amongst us journalist, that are giving this profession a very ugly name. The word humanity sounds like a joke when it comes out from their mouth.
What kind of credibility are we all waiting from a media corporates that piss in our brains and make us believe that a country that owns 300 nuclear warheads, and has one of the most advanced air force and naval defense systems on Earth, has to defend itself from a small resistance fighters.
Those fighters, whom Israel claims the need to defend itself from, hardly own machine guns and few hundreds of home made missiles that can barely damage a mouse hall in a wall. This group is what Israel uses as an excuse of all the destruction and massive civilian killings in the past two weeks. Yes, that's what these monsters want you to believe.
One thing I always wanted to know is where the hell these guys bring all these devious ways of facts manipulation? It bugles the mind to wonder how in the world they were able to make us believe that Israel with its monstrous army forces is in need of safety from a defenseless, and mostly unarmed Palestinian civilians? How they were able to convince us that a population who are crammed in a prison-like land are all terrorist and can be of a big threat to Israel's own existence? How did it make the killing of that many innocent people such a helpless matter?
Keep repeating the lie often enough, and people will believe it.. I got it!! Anyway, I guess I'll just wait for more disgusting lies called news headlines!
