Tinejdad, Morocco- Morocco's Mouad Daouik won Wednesday night the “Most Beautiful Recitation” contest in the 18th session of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award (DIHQA), which concluded on Friday.
According to Khaleejtimes, Daouik, 21, beat 15 other competitors from African countries, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Bangladesh, Brunei, Afghanistan, Qatar and the United Kingdom.
Adjudged on the basis of melodiousness, tonal quality, articulation and delivery, the Moroccan reciter received a cash prize of Dh5,000 (11,000 Moroccan dirhams).
The winners-announcing and prize-giving ceremony, which was held on Friday at the Cultural and Scientific Association HQ in Dubai, saw the nomination of Nigerian contestant Sulaiman Abdulkarim Isah, who won the top position in the international Quran completion category of the Award and received a cash prize of Dh250,000.
The contest, which allows the participation of one contestant per country, aims at encouraging young Muslims to memorize and give importance to the Holy Quran.
